Mitzi's Mold Recovery Story

Many people dealing with mold toxicity aren't aware of the root cause of their health issues, often attributing symptoms like fatigue, aches, and trouble breathing to other conditions. This is exactly what Mitzi experienced after being exposed to mold in her mother's home before developing an array of health issues.

For those, including Mitzi, who have been exposed to mold, symptoms tend to come on gradually and then get worse over time. Mold exposure can impact one's immunity, digestion, hormone production, and one's mood, energy, and overall mental health.

  • 16:15: Her experience with delayed testing

  • 18:40: Importance of breathing and enemas to help with detoxification

  • 33:23: Feeling "homeless" in a sense due to needing to move constantly

When someone experiences mold toxicity, their immune system can become suppressed and triggered easily. As in Mitzi's case, her body essentially began working overtime and scanning for other threats wherever she was, making her more susceptible to health problems such as trouble breathing, pain, and even short-term memory loss.

To combat mold toxicity and restore one's health, focusing on removing mold and other triggers, plus improving gut function, is key. That's because the gut is highly related to immune system defenses, considering the majority of the immune system is located inside the gut.

Symptoms That Mitzi Suffered from After Being Exposed to Mold

When suffering from mold toxicity, you can potentially experience widespread symptoms affecting almost your entire body. Mitzi, just like many others with mold toxicity, developed these symptoms:

  • Trouble breathing and wheezing

  • Fatigue and weakness

  • Aches, pains and feelings of heaviness, such as in the knees, back, legs, and feet

  • Sensitivity to smells and chemicals

  • Trouble with certain supplements and medications

  • Cognitive issues, including short-term memory loss and trouble with word recognition

  • Hormone-related issues, including changes in menstrual cycles

General practitioners might confuse mold exposure symptoms with allergies since both affect the immune system. In some cases, menopause or other hormonal issues might also be blamed. This happened in Mitzi's case when she visited conventional doctors, who told her that improving her immune system would be difficult.

The Mental Toll that Mold Toxicity Can Take

Not only does mold exposure cause various physical symptoms, it also often takes a mental toll—considering people dealing with mold toxicity feel the need to isolate themselves from irritants when their immune systems become weakened and overly sensitive. For example, common irritants and chemicals, such as cleaning agents and fragrances found in places like stores, malls, and movie theaters, can become triggers for those with mold toxicity.

Mitzi had to endure many moves to different locations and months of isolation while trying to remove herself from mold and other irritants. This was emotionally very difficult for her; however, she was lucky to have family members to live with in clean homes free of mold. That being said, moving around often and even feeling "homeless" at times can be exhausting and upsetting for those struggling with mold toxicity.

How Mitzi Healed and Recovered from Mold Toxicity

On her journey to recover, Mitzi found the following tools and supplements to be most helpful:

  • Educating herself about mold exposure symptoms and treatments

  • Removing herself from contaminated homes in order to live in clean spaces

  • Time spent with supportive family members

  • Visiting integrative practitioners who were open-minded about testing and different treatment options

  • Doing breathing exercises to help strengthen her lungs

  • Doing coffee enemas regularly to help her detox

  • Doing sinus irrigation with an herbal tincture and a neti pot (the tincture she used was bought locally from an herbalist and made with black walnut, yerba mansa, usnea, and cardamom). She used it 1-2 times per day with a neti pot to help clear her nasal passages and sinuses of potential pathogens.

  • Opening windows to improve ventilation when sitting indoors

  • Using an air filter, including a travel one, when staying in other locations such as hotel rooms

  • Taking supplements to support her gut, including MegaSporebiotic probiotics and Mega IgG2000 (which we recommend using together) plus Biocidin drops

  • Taking chlorella to support detoxification

Mitzi's Supplement Protocol

There isn't a one-size-fits-all supplement program that will work for every person with mold-related symptoms. Instead, we recommend trying different supplements and combinations to find what works best for you.

Keep in mind that what works for one person on their mold journey might not work for others; some trial and error is often involved in finding a successful protocol that helps keep symptoms under control so people with mold toxicity can begin to heal and thrive.

Mitzi used several products to help her overcome mold toxicity, such as biocidin drops, chlorella, an herbal tincture, and probiotics. Here's more about the products that she found to be most effective:

  • Biocidin is a botanical blend that addresses the G.I. tract and supports a healthy and balanced intestinal ecology.

  • Probiotics are friendly bacteria that populate the gut, aid in nutrient absorption, and support immune defenses.

  • MegaIgG2000™️ is a dairy-free immunoglobulin concentrate that supports healthy detoxification and maintains healthy gut barrier function.

  • Chlorella is a type of algae that helps aid in detoxification, however, be sure to follow dosage directions since taking too much chlorella once may cause side effects.

  • Note: while Mitzi didn't use fiber and has only experimented with some adaptogens, we recommend these supplements for people overcoming mold problems as well.
